Strengthening Institutional Capacity of the Anti-Corruption Establishment, Balochistan
Accountability Lab Pakistan implemented the project to strengthen the institutional capacity of the Anti-corruption Establishment Balochistan (ACEB) with a special focus on capacity building of investigators and prosecutors. During the first phase of the program, the investigators and prosecutors received detailed orientation about the infrastructure, processes, and capabilities of sister organizations in the anti-corruption ecosystem in Pakistan. This enabled them to develop formal institutional linkages among the agencies for knowledge sharing and collaboration in future and adapt the best practices. Through a series of training workshops on key areas including anti-corruption laws, tools and techniques for investigation of white-collar crimes, assets investigation, intelligence gathering and crisis communication, these workshops improved the understanding and capacity of the investigators and prosecutors.
Apart from the training, Lab arranged knowledge exchange visits for the ACEB officials with counterpart agencies in other provinces including AECs and NAB. The knowledge exchange program provided detailed orientation to the senior officials of ACEB about the infrastructure, processes and capabilities of sister organizations and helped to develop formal institutional linkages among the agencies for knowledge sharing and collaboration in future.
Moving forward, the program will further strengthen the departmental capacity by establishing a dedicated financial investigation unit (FIU) at the Anti-corruption Establishment Balochistan and provide advanced training to the investigation team to operationalize and sustain the FIU.
